Biography
Teri Donovan was born in Paris Ontario and grew up in Toronto. She graduated from York University and the University of Toronto, and spent a period of time in Baltimore where she attended the Maryland Institute College of Art.
Upon returning to Toronto, she continued studying at the Ontario College of Art and Design, the Toronto School of Art, York University , The University of Toronto and George Brown College.
She has been involved with a number of artist-run centres in Toronto including Gallery 1313, Propeller Centre for the Visusal Arts, and The Red Head Gallery.
Her work was featured in Carte Blanche Vol. 2: Painting, 2008, a survey of contemporary painting in Canada and also on the cover of Vallum Contemporary Poetry in 2009. Recently, it was chosen for the cover of Room, Canada's oldest literary journal by and about women, to be published in February 2011.
Statement
Teri Donovan's work incorporates a variety of drawing and painting media in combination with encaustic and collage elements. She is interested in everyday paradoxes that shape awareness, thoughts and behaviours.
Her work explores themes related to perception and memory as well as the impact of time on identity and the human condition. It draws on the past, recognizing it as a key force in determining the experience of the present and the creation of the future.
